Sometimes the obvious is so obvious that you miss it. Thanks, Curious B. :-)
It's a lot of fiddling around and I have to manually elongate the table legs to maintain the height of the table, but I'm getting closer.

Haha, you're welcome! I was a bit worried I was stating the obvious, but I'm glad you didn't mind. Wink

Good luck with it - looking forward to seeing the results!

No, I don't mind at all. I'm thankful for every advice I can get. That's why I'm here again. :-)

I finally found the perfect table size, no more clipping of body or hands, when I had the brilliant idea to actually let the Sims eat at the table. And as you can see, the plates are much too close to the edge of the table. When I make the table bigger again, though, the Sims' hands and arms will slightly clip through the table again. Now I don't know what do..............Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

Also, ladyheather, would you like to have the lighted columns as they currently are - the 1-story column as a column and the 2 and 3-story column as lights, or shall we wait and hope that somebody is able to tell me if it is possible to make 2 and 3-story columns out of a light?
The window, alas, is more difficult than I thought. I'm stuck on the glass meshes that somehow refuse to point in the right direction. I will make another attempt the next week, but I don't feel very confident that I succeed.

Queequeg, I'm not LadyHeather but I don't think the closeness of the plates to the edge looks bad? It looks well to me! Cheesy

I'm happy with the plates as they are. Also, I'm going on holiday tomorrow for a week and I don't know if I'll have internet, so I am happy to wait and see if 2 and 3 story lighted columns are possible. Cheesy

Ah, that's a relief. I was getting quite obsessed with the table. Thank you both for your replies. Now I can concentrate on the other objects.

Oh, and have a great vacation, ladyheather!

Update edit:

I'm almost done, but there are two things I like to straighten out.

Firstly, there's the window.
I've managed to puzzle frame and glass together, but I can move the window glass in whatever position I want the floor always pokes through the black wood/plastic/whatever it is that edges the window on both ends. I've read Ignorant Bliss' tutorial through and through several times, but I cannot find a solution for it. That's why I decided to give up on it for the time being. Perhaps I can make a stab at it again when I become more experienced over the course of time, but then perhaps somebody else is willing to take over. :-)

Secondly, there's the fountain.
I made two versions, both needing the University EP and both, being fountains, unlighted. However, you can put table lamps on the nozzles that cover the fountain's bottom so that it looks like there are lights. The actual problem, though, are the water-jets. The left fountain, cloned from the Spaceship Spacious Fountain, has very high water-jets, almost covering the statues. The right fountain, cloned from the College Fountain, has only a tiny spout and also would be in need of adjusting the footprint so that the Sims won't walk though it. I would be ready to try that, but again I can guarantee for nothing. :-)

So? Your wish is my command...........

Hmm... I think I prefer the fountain with the bigger jets. The other one is nice, but the jet is so tiny, it doesn't make much of an impact.

What if you rotate the fountain with the bigger jets by 90 or 45 degrees (depending on the number of jets) so they wouldn't line up with the statues so closely?

I've already done that, Miros, but unfortunately it doesn't make much of a difference. And as I'm a visual learner and take pictures of each and everything I can show you what I mean. The blue picture shows the fountain in its original position, the red one is the fountain turned by 45 degrees. The fact that the water-jets are rather close to the middle of the fountain and the statues are really voluminous leaves little scope for experiments. I guess what it would take to prevent the water from cutting through the statues is to re-arrange the whole mesh, which I'm not able to do yet (hopefully some day in the near future:-))

However, I did some more thinking about what I've done so far. The fountain, the columns, and the casino sign that I converted although having said that their conversion is beyond my abilities were supposed to be compromises, along the lines of "anything is better than nothing". If I offer them for upload, though, there's a high probability that nobody else will attempt to improve them, thinking "why should I bother with something that's already been made."
Also, with the discussion about badly made custom content and standards going on right now, I feel that I shouldn't contribute to the subject with makeshift objects myself, which is why I've decided to upload only those objects that look and work like their Sims 3 counterpart (loveseat, bar, barstool), with the exception of the blackjack table, which I think cannot be made in another way.

Ladyheather, I hope you're not too disappointed with my decision. I don't know how long you are prepared to wait for the fountain/columns/casino sign/window, so I'm not sure how to proceed now. I could work on them from time to time, seeing if I can enhance them myself (which could take weeks, perhaps months) or you could make a new request (of course, I could send whoever is willing to work on the objects everything I've done so far, meshes, textures, exported GMDCs, and so on). Whatever you decide to do, I'm fine with it. :-)

Edit: Sorry, Dibaday, I only noticed your post now ...... I hope you're not too disappointed either. :-)

That's fine, I get not wanting to upload stuff you're not totally happy with. If no-one else wants to take over, would it be OK if I had a go at it myself? I know a little bit about TS2 creation and am always willing to learn more, I just don't have the tools to do any of the the TS3 extracting stuff. And thank you for all the hard work you've put in.

No problem, I'll send you a PM with the extracted stuff.

And here's the rest of the set that I was able to convert.

As the blackjack 'dining table' is considerably smaller as the original blackjack table, I made a second version that can be used for two Sims to sit at (pretending to play blackjack). It's not suitable as a dining table though, as the Sims' bodies would clip through the edges of the table while eating and the plates wouldn't be positioned correctly.
The column is based on an outdoor lamp, so it automatically lights up when it gets dark. For the column to be lighted throughout the night, you would need Numenor's "Smarter Lights" here: http://www.modthesims.info/d/188024.
The blackjack table and the wall sculpture have those recolors they have in the Sims3 game, for the column and the bar/barstool I made recolors just to see if recolering works (it did). A collection file is included so that the objects don't get lost in the masses of your custom content.
I've thoroughly tested everything in the game, should there be problems nonetheless, don't hesitate to contact me.

A big thanks to everybody in this thread and to pinkosim for giving me tips and advice. :-)

Thanks ladyheather for great wish and thank you Queequeg for converting these objects, they are great. I'm currently making some of the houses from Lucky Palms for my TS2 game and these will be useful.  Grin

There's just one thing I have to ask. I may be wrong, but from what I can see in those pictures of windows in TS3 the floor pokes through the original window too, it's just different color (it's black) than it's in TS2? I think those windows are intended to be used as two storey windows without the floor in the middle, that's why the glass goes all the way to the top and the bottom. I don't think there's a solution for that problem other than default replacement of the floor rim so you shouldn't be concerned that windows are not good enough for sharing because you've made them exactly as they originaly are.

Ladyheather, Dibaday, lipiman, glad you like them. :-)

There actually was a solution to the problem: adding a subset to the one frame that consists of two groups (instead of regrouping them). The fun of learning!

Now that I've finished the straight version of the window, though, I have a new problem. I cannot find the diagonal version. For the basegame and expansion pack windows, the diagonal can be found under the texture tab in TSR Workshop. For the (store) casino window, there's only the straight version. I've tried to make a diagonal version out of the straight window, but (of course) it didn't work out as window and wall mask aren't wide enough.
Does anyone have any ideas where to look for the diagonal? (And please don't tell me I have to manually stretch frame and glass in Milkshape.)
